LORENZO SNOW
Allie Young Pond, Lorenzo Snow’s granddaughter, tells of an experience she had with him one day, as she and President Snow were walking in the Salt Lake Temple. She said:

“After we left his room and while we were still in the large corridor, leading into the Celestial room, I was walking several steps ahead of Grandpa when he stopped me, saying, ‘Wait a moment, Allie, I want to tell you something. It was right here that the Lord Jesus Christ appeared to me at the time of the death of President Woodruff….’

“Then grandpa came a step nearer and held out his left hand and said, ‘He stood right here, about three feet above the floor. It looked as though He stood on a plate of solid gold.’

“Grandpa told me what a glorious personage the Savior is and described His hands, feet, countenance and beautiful white robes, all of which were of such a glory of whiteness and brightness that he could hardly gaze upon Him” (Deseret News, Church Section, April 2, 1938, p. 8; found in Ensign, August 1975, pp. 19-20).

HEBER Q. HALE
At the request of the Presidency of the Church, Heber Q. Hale, president of the Boise Idaho Stake at the time, related a heavenly manifestation he had on the night of January 20, 1920, between the hours of 12:00 midnight and 7:30 a.m. Just after he fell asleep, he left his body lying in its bed and passed into the world of spirits where he saw and heard many things regarding the vicarious work done for the dead by the Latter-day Saints. Among the many things he reported is the following:

“I presently approached a small group of men standing in a path lined with spacious stretches of flowers, grasses, and shrubbery, all of golden hue, marking the approach to a beautiful building. The men were engaged in earnest conversation. One of their number parted from the rest and came walking down the path. I at once recognized my esteemed President Joseph F. Smith, former Church President, whom I had known in the flesh. He embraced me as a father would a son and, after a few words of greeting, quickly remarked, ‘You have not come to stay.’

“[After a few words of conversation, President Smith] turned and led me toward the little group of men from whom he had just separated. I immediately recognized Brigham Young and the Prophet Joseph Smith….All three of these men were in possession of a calm and holy majesty, which was at once kind and kingly. President Smith introduced me to the others, who greeted me warmly. We then returned to our original place. President Smith took his leave, saying he would see me again.

“…While standing at a certain vantage point, I beheld a short distance away a wonderfully beautiful temple. It was capped with golden domes. Coming from the temple was a small group of men dressed in robes, who paused for a brief conversation….In this little group of holy men, my eyes rested upon one more splendid and holy than all the rest. President Smith parted from the others and came to my side.

“’Do you know him?’ he asked. I quickly answered that I did. My eyes beheld the Lord and Savior. My soul was filled with rapture and unspeakable joy” (Beyond the Veil, comp. by Lee Nelson, pp. 51-54).

DAVID O. McKAY
On the evening of May 10, 1921, while sailing toward Samoa during his world tour, Apostle David O. McKay fell asleep in his cabin and had a marvelous dream. He wrote:

“I…fell asleep, and beheld in vision something infinitely sublime. In the distance I beheld a beautiful white city. Though far away, yet I seemed to realize that trees with luscious fruit, shrubbery with gorgeously- tinted leaves, and flowers in perfect bloom abounded everywhere. The clear sky above seemed to reflect these beautiful shades of color. I then saw a great concourse of people approaching the city. Each one wore a white flowing robe, and a white headdress. Instantly my attention seemed centered upon their Leader, and though I could see only the profile of his features and his body, I recognized him at once as my Savior! The tint and radiance of his countenance were glorious to behold! There was a peace about him which seemed sublime—it was divine!

“The city, I understood, was his. It was the City Eternal; and the people following him were to abide there in peace and eternal happiness.

“But who were they?

“As if the Savior read my thoughts, he answered by pointing to a semicircle that then appeared above them, and on which were written in gold the words:

“‘These Are They Who Have Overcome The World—Who Have Truly Been Born Again!’

“When I awoke, it was breaking day” (Cherished Experiences from the Writings of David O. McKay, 1976, p. 108-109).
